Better Places Life is an independent research site for people making real decisions about where and how to live.
We focus on questions where a generic ranking or a one-paragraph answer is not enough: housing affordability, relocation costs, residency rules, cross-border money and healthcare, retirement access, mobility, and the trade-offs that can change whether a place actually works for a household.
What makes our research different
We do not aim to publish endless ‘best places’ lists. We start with a real reader problem, use current official or highly reliable public sources, and then add Better Places analysis: calculations, scenarios, comparisons or a decision framework that helps turn rules and statistics into a practical choice.
How we work
- Start with the decision. We define the question a reader is actually trying to solve.
- Use current evidence. Important figures, rules, dates and exceptions are checked against official or highly reliable sources.
- Show the reasoning. Where useful, we calculate the real-world impact rather than repeating a headline number.
- State the limits. Comparisons explain assumptions, exceptions and what the data cannot tell you.
- Keep it current. Research articles include a last-checked date so readers can judge how fresh the information is.
First-hand perspective, used carefully
The publisher behind Better Places Life moved to Australia with family in the early 1990s and has spent decades operating small businesses, including roughly 20 years in the cafe industry, as well as owning and investing in property, investing in shares, and raising five sons. Those experiences do not replace evidence. When they genuinely help, they are used to test whether a financial or location comparison makes sense in real life.
We never present personal experience as universal advice, and we do not invent interviews, case studies or first-hand claims.
Our standard
Better Places Life is designed to be useful before it is searchable. If a topic can be answered adequately in a short paragraph, it usually does not need a full article here. The goal is to publish fewer, stronger pieces that give readers a reason to stay, calculate, compare and make a better-informed decision.
